A busy weekend for the club both in the time trial scene and with the inaugural Dundee Thistle Crombie MTB XC Race taking place on Sunday with riders represented across Angus, Ayrshire, Stirlingshire, Deeside and further afield in Berwick.
Up first on Sunday was the Kennoway RC 10TT in Freuchie. Club member Angus Wilson securing third place and a podium spot with a super time of 20m55s. Jimi William missed out on the top ten but put in a respectable shift with a ride in the 23s. Notable mention to Nico Anelli in second place, a member of the Jaggies but riding for his own team Real Guts Racing.
Most of the Jaggies found their way up to Crombie Country Park for the mornings cross country mountain bike event, the weather gods were very kind for once and glorious sunshine greeted all. The event has been a monumental bit of work and effort from Chris Golightly with the help of many members of the club to get up and running, hopefully the race will form part of the SXC (Scottish Cross Country Association) series in the future.
The course is a very traditional cross country event designed around natural roots, grass and dirt terrain across the park with very little in the way of made structures.
It was decided by the commissaire on the day that competitors would complete 5 laps in the Super Vet and ladies age categories with the Vets, G Vets, Elites and Sport riders taking on 6 laps of the 6.2km course. There was also a taster event for those wanting to dip their toes into the XC scene.
Neil Raitt (SVet) had a great tussle with Andrew Simpson (Vet) in the early laps before fatigue succumbed to Andrew in his first XC race, hopefully one of many. Neil yet again making the podium and winning his category. Gary Carnegie, put in a solid performance also in the GVet category making the podium in third. I managed to win the overall with a sprint finish after a group of us including Ross Morris (Saint Pirin Delivra), Kieren Stakim (Loudoun RC) took almost 5 laps to reel in the excellent Wayne Barr (Velocity 44 RT).
Thanks to Chris, all the entrants and our club members on the day for making it such a special event. Also to Angus Alive and the park rangers for making the event happen at Crombie.
Mentions to local club Trilogy CC for their support and who had many members on the start line, securing podiums with Jim Foulis , Nadine Keira Reilly and Lewis Jones. Also to Velocity 44 RT with 3 team members taking the start and podiums for Jane and Wayne Barr. Also to Adam Wilson and others for taking on the taster event.
